‘I do’ diary – Debbie and Andrew’s final stage of wedding planning

Debbie and Andrew finally said ‘I do’ back in April at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh.

After having to postpone for a year, their beautiful wedding went ahead and we’re featuring it in our upcoming September issue of Your Scottish Wedding magazine.

They’ve shared all the details and gorgeous photos from their incredible day.

While you wait though, here’s all their final stages of planning…

Debbie and Andrew

With the venue and dress sorted (which you can read about in her previous column here), Debbie let us in on her décor dreams.

“I don’t have a wedding co-ordinator so everything about the day has been our own vision! (Mainly mine, haha!)” Debbie laughed.

“I was an event planner in a previous life so I’m a total Monica Geller when it comes to details and planning.”

Debbie (and Andrew) decided on a colour scheme of ivory and plum with her bridesmaids dressed in plum and their flower girl in ivory.

She entrusted her flowers to the talented Garlands Florist.

“Mine was a beautiful hand-tied bouquet with a natural feel to it in purple and white/ivory tones,” she said.

“There were white hydrangeas, white and lilac roses, purple lisianthus, white calla lilies, thistles and a lovely selection of green foliage.”

The bridesmaids carried a smaller version of Debbie’s bouquet while she kept things simple and classy for her seat ends with a single white hydrangea with purple lisianthus and foliage tied with ribbon.

The venue’s fireplaces and bay windows were dressed in trailing arrangements while the guest table centrepieces were tall arrangements placed on mirrors surrounded by tealights.

“This was to be in keeping with the bridal flowers but mainly hydrangeas,” Debbie said.

She planned a low arrangement on the top table – “To allow us to see all of our guests’ lovely faces!”

The final touches

When we caught up with Debbie just before their big day she said they were both super excited!

“My only nerves are that I’ll be emotional on the day and Andrew will be late!” she said.

Although they were in the final stages of planning when we spoke, that didn’t mean the to-do list was light.

Debbie had been to see her own dress when it arrived in the boutique – “I was nervous I wouldn’t like it and that it would be too big for me but I still love it.”

Favours also still had to be sorted and they were in the midst of finalising their honeymoon to Mexico, but ever the planner, Debbie wasn’t one to delegate.

“Haha, I’m defo taking control,” she laughed. “I even ordered the favours for my hen do!”

There were still be a few things to do but when we caught up they were at the stage of some really fun perks.

To get her bridal beauty on point Debbie enjoyed a spa day and luxury facial at One Spa at the Sheraton recently before another spa day at The Balmoral with her mum and bridesmaids for facials and bubbly.

The things brides have to do to get wedding ready!

The couple also went for their fabulous wedding menu tasting back in February, to fine-tune it all.

“It was amazing!” said Debbie. “The venue really spoiled us!

“We had a private room overlooking Edinburgh Castle with a bottle of Champagne and both the wines we will be serving on the day.”

Sounds like the perfect way to get excited for your wedding!
