Symbolising life, purity and renewal, water has a natural calming vibe and can ooze romance, too. Just think of the gentle sound of waves or the tranquil presence of a loch and you’ll have a ready-made serene and intimate ambiance that’s perfect for tying the knot.

If this is giving you all the feels, you’re in luck because in beautiful Scotland getting wed on the beach, marrying by a picturesque loch or tying the knot at a rugged coastline are all real (and fairly easy to access) options. Aren’t we lucky!?

As well as their natural beauty and secluded settings, unique waterfront venues have so much more to give. There’ll often be opportunities for glorious outdoor activities (as part of your wedding or for the pre- and post-celebrations) and, of course, plenty of luxurious indoor spaces when it comes to dining and dancing, resting your head or chilling out in the spa.

So, without further ado, team YSW is delighted to reveal 11 of its favourite places to wed by the water in Scotland – get ready to be knocked off your feet, to-be-weds!

Bachilton Barn

Understated and gorgeous, we absolutely love Bachilton Barn’s water-focused wedding space – its very own charming pond, which is just screaming out for a pair of to-be-weds to tie the knot next to it!

The lovely team at the venue can set up a special ceremony space that meets your requirements (from intimate micro-weddings to grand affairs with gigantic guest lists) but you’ll find the aisle is already waiting for you thanks to Mother Nature: the trees form a beautiful, natural walkway.

The venue’s outdoor area also has a gazebo and plenty of picnic benches – perfect for mingling after toasting to the happy couple. Make sure to pop back to the pond as dusk hits because there will be so many showstopping photo opportunities!

Brisbane House

Fancy getting married by the sea with the entire venue for you and your guests from just over £2,000? We thought so – say hello to the new look Brisbane House, an exclusive-use, waterside venue on the stunning Ayrshire coast in Largs.

The newly refurbished ceremony and reception suite has a modern glass front overlooking the spectacular sea views, complete with doors leading out to a terrace – such a beautiful ceremony backdrop. Continue on to the new drinks reception room and you’ll uncover another lush terrace.

Did we mention the new landscaped walkway to the front of the hotel perfectly frames the gorgeous seaside? An ideal photo spot, this also leads to the seafront for sunset photos and post-vow strolls. P.S. Make sure to take in the waterside surroundings the morning after too, from the balcony of the impressive new duplex honeymoon suite.

At beautiful Broxmouth Courtyard, the world is your oyster if you’re keen to wed near the water. As well as the elegant yet rustic venue’s picturesque private loch with resident swans, the estate borders Dunbar’s Whitesands Beach.

That means it’s just a few minutes’ drive from Broxmouth (a handy wee excuse to take a moment for just the two of you and truly soak up the joy of being newlyweds) to capture those once-in-a-lifetime just married pics on serene white sands.

Did we mention the exclusive use venue’s private woodland and secluded loch? Your photographer will be spoilt for choice here!

Plus there’s a charming lodge right by the loch, complete with a luxe hot tub and water view – ideal minimoon destination, we reckon!

Fairmont St Andrews

Luxury and romance align at this distinguished world-class resort. Here, you’ve got inspiring bridal imagery, exquisite coastal scenery and a rugged landscape – not to mention a vast food and drink offering, and the utterly relaxing Fairmont Spa.

With the Fife coastal path just a few paces from St Andrews Bay Clubhouse & Grill (the venue’s most unique dining space), couples can muddy their boots with a cliffside walk down to the bay below – perfect for waterside photography. Alternatively, get some relaxing shots in the Fife sunshine, perched elegantly on the cliffs with a glass of bubbles in hand.

Got little ones in your wedding party? Let them experience the water and get them involved in rock-pooling or seaweed foraging with local guides whilst the adults rest up (or continue celebrating) the day after the wedding!

Marine North Berwick

If you want to marry on the beach (complete with a BBQ as your wedding breakfast if you wish!) with gorgeous views of the Firth of Forth and across to Bass Rock then you need to visit Marine North Berwick.

Set on Scotland’s ‘golf coast’ in East Lothian, you simply cross the golf course direct from the hotel and you’ll hit the beach.

But you’ll find the pretty location has plenty of other opportunities to create wedding magic – the indoor ceremony space, for example, has floor-to-ceiling glass walls that look directly over the coast.

Meanwhile, the walled garden is the perfect spot for outdoor weddings that still take in the impressive vista. We love this truly elegant venue, which combines original Victorian features with contemporary amenities to ensure a super-stylish wedding day.

Nestled amidst the breathtaking coastal backdrop of Scotland’s Firth of Clyde, Turnberry Resort is unparalleled in its allure.

For a mesmerising coastal backdrop to your wedding ceremony, consider the Ailsa Craig Suite or the Crystal Room. Both are elegantly decorated spaces that reflect the natural beauty lying just beyond their picture-frame windows.

Or for a truly unique experience, tie the knot alongside your loved ones by the iconic Turnberry Lighthouse. We love this one-of-a-kind setting, complete with panoramic coastal views.

After you’ve experienced this magic, it’ll be time to head back to the crown jewel of Turnberry – the grand ballroom.
