Balbirnie House is a 1777 Georgian mansion, Category A Listed of national and international architectural and design importance. The house was the inspiration for Edinburgh’s New Town. This historic house was caringly restored and converted into a hotel in the late 1980’s, and since then the property has evolved into a totally unique and special destination, and especially so for weddings.

Balbirnie House is one of Scotland’s landmark hotels, with a uniquely established history under 4 decades of personal supervision and private ownership, playing host and providing a backdrop for many thousands of Scotland’s most special private and corporate events.

Over the years Balbirnie has been the recipient of a quite extraordinary collection of industry awards, especially for weddings. In these contexts, 2023 was an extraordinary year. We were quite simply overjoyed to announce that at the most recent Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards (the Hotel Industry Oscars equivalent), and set against the competitive backdrop of the many wonderful hotels and wedding venues across Scotland, Balbirnie once again received overall ‘Scottish Wedding Hotel of the Year’ – Rather incredibly, that is now 15 times in the last 17 years that Balbirnie has received Scotland’s top wedding award, in recognition of our dedication to our weddings.

Our whole team are over the moon and thrilled that all our hard work to make each and every wedding so special has been so well recognised.

Arising perhaps as a result of what has happened with The Scottish Hotel of the Year award scheme, specifically in that there is no hotel in any other country on Planet Earth that has received anything like the recognition which Balbirnie House has had for weddings here in Scotland, in 2018 our company directors were invited to represent Scotland within Haute Grandeur global awards, this has continued annually since then. We are so very humbled to convey that as at December 2024 Balbirnie House has become the recipient of eleven best in-world hospitality awards via Haute Grandeur global hotel awards.

Within these eleven global awards, Best Wedding Hotel in the world, global recipient five times.
