Nestled at the base of Ben Venue and on the shores of Loch Ard in the Trossachs, Ledard Farm gives residence to three generations of the Wood family. The farm dates back to 1474AD when its first mentioned in the minutes of the privy council of the Kings of Scotland described as the farm on the high slope from the Scots Gaelic ‘ard’ as the oldest buildings are situated above the now working 300 acre sheep farm. The MacGregors of Glengyle and Strathard were managing the land in the 17^th Century for cattle droving and during that period the men from the area took part in the 1689 uprising supporting the House of Stuart as Jacobites, which began with the battle of Killiecrankie in July of that year. Rob Roy himself fought at the battle and regaling his experiences to his kinsman at the farm in MacGregors Barn post battle at the feast of the Hairst Kirn in October of that year.  

MacGregors Barn was originally built in 1604 as a mill barn for storing feed for Highland cattle, the original mill stone lies next to the building. The walls are cladded with clan weaponry and artifacts from the 17^th & 18^th Century, reminding guests of the history and stories from the past. Sir Walter Scott was also a regular visitor to the Barn in 1810 & 1817 at the time of writing his famous novels Lady of the lake and Rob Roy, where the farm and area are described.

The farm is owned and farmed by father and son Fergus and Gregor Wood. The atmospheric MacGregors Barn has a capacity for 45 diners banqueting style with a top table for six.  There is an adjacent commercial kitchen and the quirky historic Stables Bar for a champagne reception prior to the wedding breakfast. Post dinner MacGregors Barn is an excellent venue for traditional music, a ceilidh dance or disco.  

They have their own in-house caterer and Chef who will be delighted to discuss your requirements and Fergus and Gregor can be your hosts for the day.  They can provide a Master of Ceremonies, a piper and their award winning Kinlochard Ceilidh Band if required.  They can also assist you with external supplier recommendations to provide you with the perfect day and a one stop solution.

The family have diversified alongside agriculture with renewable energy projects at the farm such as a hydro turbine and solar paneling.  The farm can provide pre or post wedding activities for your guests onsite such as sheepdog demonstrations, specialist whisky tastings and a fantastic clay pigeon shooting facility. We also have a sauna and fresh water swimming facility in our Loch field.
