Think honeymoon and you could easily find yourself dreaming of faraway tropical islands and warm seas.
But if you and your other half favour a cooler climate and the promise of seeing the aurora borealis, this amazing four-day adventure in Finnish Lapland will tick
all your boxes.
Amanda Mckinlay of Thorne Travel says, “The Nordics are fast becoming known for their unique, design-driven accommodation and this itinerary combines two of Finland’s finest.
What’s more, they’re both on the same secluded site, tucked away in the beauty of Finland’s Arctic north.”
Flying to Rovaniemi you’ll be transferred to the Arctic SnowHotel where you’ll spend your first night experiencing the ethereal beauty of this one-of-a-kind hotel.
You’ll sleep on a transparent bed of ice under expertly carved friezes while sauna visits and hearty Lappish cuisine served by a crackling fire are just the ticket to keep you cosy.
Make sure you try the reindeer steak in red wine sauce in the hotel’s Kota Restaurant and cap it off with a visit to the Ice Bar for drinks served in frozen glasses. Before you settle down for the night an included tour will introduce you to the SnowHotel’s unique construction.
And when it’s time for bed you’ll sleep in an Arctic sleeping bag and even receive a certificate for your troubles.
Talk about a momento from your honeymoon!
The following day you’ll swap your frozen accommodation for your very own underfloor-heated glass-igloo where you’ll spend the next two nights.
Lying in bed you can watch the Northern Lights play out above your head.
But there’s no need to lie awake all night hoping for a glance of the light show.
There’s an aurora alarm service that can be turned on to alert you to the midnight colours.
How you spend your days is up to you with plenty of optional winter activities to choose from.
Outdoorsy couples will love husky sledding, ice fishing and snowmobiling.
There’s even a chance to ride a new electric snowmobile – emission-free ‘eSleds’ – the first of their kind in the Nordics.
For a slightly more relaxed, but still invigorating, experience try out a traditional Finnish sauna or Snow Sauna, where icy walls provide a stark contrast to the hot steam.
You could also spend time on a snow-sculpting course to gain an insight into the ice hotel’s beauty or you could explore Rovaniemi itself, heading into the town centre with free transfers.
In the evenings you’ll love the hotel’s spectrally-lit Ice Restaurant, where dishes like roasted elk and braised fish will keep you cosy.
If this isn’t the perfect winter honeymoon we don’t know what is!
