“Ana-Rose and I actually met at work. We both joined the same company during Covid, helping build a new bank. So, it’s far from the typical dating-app story.

In the early days we’d grab coffee together, chatting through face masks and navigating the strange world of social distancing. After six months together, we moved in with Ana-Rose’s parents to start saving for our dream home. After about two years we moved into it. And now, four and a half years after meeting, we’re planning our wedding.

I proposed during a weekend away for Ana-Rose’s birthday at the Roxburghe Schloss in Kelso in April 2025. We were lucky with the weather and spent the afternoon relaxing in the outdoor pool with the sun shining.

Later that evening we went for a walk around the grounds and that’s when I asked the question. We kept it very low-key afterwards so we could spend the first night just the two of us celebrating but I’d planned a family dinner for when we got back. Then we headed straight to London to share the news with one of her best friends, Lori, and her brother, David.

I designed the ring myself, with the help of a family friend who is a jeweller. It’s a three-stone, classic-cut trilogy.

Ana didn’t waste any time – we were already talking about wedding plans on the day of the proposal. We knew we wanted either Edinburgh or St Andrews, as both places mean a lot to us. In the end we chose the Old Course Hotel. We’ve spent a lot of time there over the years and I love golf, so that’s a bonus.

As much as I love the sun, we went for a December wedding. You can never guarantee the wedding in Scotland, regardless of season, so went all in with winter – and a Christmas-themed wedding, which will be pretty magical.

Most of the big decisions are already sorted and we’ve loved every minute of planning. Next on the list are evening invitations and food choices. Then it’s on to the fun part – stag, hen and honeymoon.”
