I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to visit Winton Castle.
With blue skies and the winter sun shining through, I arrived at the venue.
Winton is located just five minutes from my home and having driven past it countless times, I’d always wondered what lay beyond the grand gates.
Nestled in Pencaitland, the castle is just 30 minutes from Edinburgh – a stunning rural retreat with convenient transport links and nearby accommodation.
As you approach the castle the winding driveway, lined with fields and trees, sets the stage.
I even spotted a few Highland cows!
Turning the corner, I was greeted by the striking sight of the castle itself with its signature red door.
Inside, a roaring fire awaits – the perfect welcome on a crisp January day in Scotland.
Winton Castle’s charm lies in its unique blend of grandeur and warmth, making it the ideal wedding venue.
Their slogan, “Intimacy on a grand scale,” says it all.
Hosting only 25 weddings a year, each couple enjoys an exclusive and personalised experience.
And since the castle itself remains a family home, it retains that welcoming, authentic charm.
Make yourself at home
Weddings at Winton are often two or three-day affairs, giving you and your guests plenty of time to celebrate.
The day before the wedding various options are on offer, including barbecues, Highland games in the walled garden, and even axe throwing!
Then, on the big day itself, couples can choose from two outdoor ceremony areas – the Lower Terrace or the Walled Garden.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate though, the Drawing Room, with its royal history and capacity for 100 guests, is a perfect indoor alternative.
After the ceremony, your guests will be welcomed in the cosy Octagon,
which also features a roaring fire.
Drinks on offer include tipples from a range of local breweries; Winton Brewery, Campervan Brewery, and Glenkinchie Distillery, giving your guests a true taste of Scotland.
For the wedding breakfast, couples can choose the elegant Dining Room or set up a marquee on the front lawn.
The Dining Room offers round or long tables, with a unique bay-shaped top table for the wedding party.
Then after dinner, the room transforms into a dance floor, letting everyone party the night away.
Plenty of space
Winton Castle also offers accommodation, with 10 elegant bedrooms for up to 20 guests, and additional self-catering houses nearby
for 36 more.
And you’re going to love the spectacular Bridal Suite with a fourposter bed, spacious en-suite bathroom, and plenty of space for the bridal party to get ready.
There is so much more to explore at this venue and I highly recommend taking a tour of it yourself because if you’re dreaming of a fairy tale wedding, Winton Castle would be a perfect choice.
