Dream Team: Groomswear Shoot at Cromlix

If you’ve been there before, you’ll know Cromlix doesn’t need much staging. The challenge here isn’t finding a beautiful backdrop, it’s choosing between them all.

The YSW team spent six hours working their way through the estate; outside on the lawn, down to the tennis court, into the glasshouse (where a grand piano made for some unexpected shots), through the chapel with every candle lit and the stained glass casting light across the stone, into the dining room and the lounge. Finally it was time to head into the surrounding forest, which required climbing through long grass and over fallen logs in entirely the wrong footwear. Everyone laughed.
There were ten outfit changes. Cloudy skies with pockets of sun (ideal conditions, as it turned out). A relaxed lunch break in the middle. And one moment nobody planned for – a bird handling class nearby sent an eagle straight onto the bonnet of a Range Rover parked at the entrance. The camera was already rolling.
Cromlix’s decoration is expressive and specific. It’s the kind of venue where ideas arrive as you walk, rather than before you get there – the hidden pond at the back of the lawn and the tennis court, which turned out to be one of the most creative locations of the day. And, of course, the chapel that stopped everyone in their tracks.
