Claire Muir talks through some of our fave theme/outfit combos, complete with top tips from Scotland’s groomswear suppliers…
Classic and traditional wedding

“I bought my kilt back in 2019 and have tended to wear it with a blue tweed jacket and waistcoat.
But I was looking for a different style for my own wedding to Hazel at Enterkine House Hotel.
I liked the idea of a classic, traditional look – all-black groomsman attire and my Anderson tartan kilt (a quintessentially Scottish tartan) differentiating me as the groom rather than a tartan plaid.
The bridesmaids all wore black too… Clearly e were mourning the end of our single life!
I looked online and really liked the Black Isle modern tartan from McCalls for the groomsmen.
So then it was just the matter of picking a jacket for us all.
It was a toss-up between the Crail or the Prince Charlie but the Prince Charlie seemed a lot cleaner and complemented my kilt more.
I wore a white sporran and hose to pick up those aspects of the Anderson Weathered Tartan (the groomsmen wore black sporrans and hose) and I had a kilt pin
made by Jess MacDonald Brass.
It was of the Isle of Arran as that’s where we got engaged.

Outside wedding

“Nadia and I had a traditional wedding at Drumtochty Castle, and I chose tartan trews for style and comfort.
We planned to head to Cairn O’Mount with our photographer to capture some pictures on the hill and I was keen to be comfy (and practical!) so we’d get the best images possible.
Also, Nadia is Scottish and I’m English so we felt the trews were a nice way to meet in the middle.
On the day they looked so smart and were exactly what we had pictured alongside the kilts in the same tartan.

Black tie wedding
