We’ve heard a lot about maximalist weddings in the last few years, particularly since stringent pandemic rules loosened, with couples wanting to go big or go home.

But if that’s not your style this beautiful styled photoshoot led by Timshel Pictures and Lori Walker Makeup provides the perfect minimalist alternative.

The talented duo brought together a team of wedding suppliers and creatives at Newhall Estate where they experimented with sleek lines that were counterbalanced with sumptuous reds and indulgent berries and flowers.

“This styled shoot was born from a love for contrasts – the delicate balance between the crisp, lingering elegance of winter and the bold, undeniable energy of spring,” explains Andreea Cucu, the photographer at Timeshel Pictures.

“I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when the last frost softens, and warmth begins to take hold, blending cool sophistication with a fiery, romantic edge.

“The inspiration came from the way nature transitions, where bare branches suddenly burst into bloom, and muted landscapes are awakened by vibrant hues.”

Lori adds that the shoot came about through her and Andreea’s shared vision.

“I’d reached out with a winter-inspired concept and a moodboard for the make-up, and together we developed the idea into a collaborative, stylised bridal shoot.

“While Andreea did a brilliant job, organising the venue, florist, videographer and cake designer, I sourced the dresses and brought in the hairstylist – helping to shape the overall aesthetic of the day.”

Newhall Estate was chosen as the picturesque location for the shoot.

This beautiful exclusive use country home nestled in the Pentland Hills just outside Edinburgh is a gorgeous wedding setting and models Max and Lili looked perfectly at home taking centre stage here.

Newhall has four ceremony locations on-site, and the choice of two evening reception spaces, not to mention the Bryce Suite where the models began their day.

Lori and Maureen, of The Bride to be… were in charge of Lili’s glam for the day.

“Maureen’s hairstyling was absolutely stunning, bringing an elegant yet effortless feel to the look, while Lori’s makeup artistry perfectly complemented it, enhancing the bride’s natural beauty in such a timeless way,” says Andrea.

“Their attention to detail and talent truly made this shoot so special.”

Lori’s make-up was all about storytelling.

“I wanted it to reflect the feeling of a frost-tinged winter morning – a bold red lip to add warmth and contrast, wide fresh eyes, and a high, windswept flush across the cheeks and nose to mimic that rosy glow you get from cold air,” she says.

“The aim was for the look to feel romantic, minimal and expressive, like a bride caught in a quiet, wintry dream.”

Maureen of The Bride to be… styled three beautiful hairdos throughout the day and let us in on the thinking behind them.

“Having had a short brief on the lovely model and the stunning gowns, realising there were no headpieces for me to work with, my creative ability kicked in,” she smiles. “Individual pearl and diamanté pins never go to waste in my kit.”

Maureen colour matched some clip-in extensions to create additional volume and length. “I love working with redheads,” she says. “Absolutely striking.”

For the first style she created a dimensional look with two neatly packed pleats on top of each other giving height before she incorporated pearl and diamanté at the base of the pleats.”

The second hairstyle was a sophisticated curly up-do to show off the gown’s bustier.

“I moved the sequence of the pins, peaking at the top, giving the impression of a tiny tiara,” says Maureen.

Then for the final style it was very much a 50s vibe to complement the short bridal dress.

“To create a 50s bob look, I tucked the bride’s hair up at the back and secured it firmly,” she says. “For this look I flatted the pleats making a headband-type image, placing a chic pearl bow to finish.”

As well as her trusted pins Maureen also used her go-to products including Wow raise the root, L’Oreal’s Elnett hairspray, Wow shine spray and her Jose Ember curling irons.

Lili’s red lips echoed the colour pops of the décor and added a timeless elegance.

“Red became the heart of this vision – a colour that speaks of passion, transformation, and timeless romance,” says Andrea.

“Deep crimson roses, velvety ranunculus, and rich carnations stand out against a backdrop of sleek minimalism, while ripe cherries and pomegranates add a touch of indulgence, echoing the lush abundance of spring’s arrival.

“The styling was intentionally contemporary yet deeply romantic, balancing softness with statement details.”

Every wedding needs a showstopping cake and Katherine of Katie’s Cakes interpreted the brief beautifully.

“The beautiful staging tied in very well with the 2025 colours and floral themes,” she says.

“This year is all about white and red and we used anthurium, calla lilies, moss and red roses.”

Her cake embraced the effortlessly chic approach and Katherine confirms that a ‘less is more’ approach can have as much of an impact as more traditional designs – if not more so.

She adds, “White and green is synonymous with elegance and sophistication, and this cake provides a contemporary twist with a more informal arrangement of foliage and long-stemmed statement flowers.”

Andrea knew exactly how she wanted to shoot the different looks.

She says, “By day, I wanted to highlight the crisp elegance of winter’s farewell—soft natural light accentuating cool textures and the quiet beauty of stillness.

“But as the sun dipped lower, the atmosphere shifted, giving way to a reception bathed in candlelight.

“The tablescape became a glowing celebration of intimacy and warmth, with deep red florals intertwined with soft greenery, flickering tapers in ivory and crimson, and delicate, flowing ribbons adding movement and elegance.

“The goal was to create a space that felt both luxurious and inviting, where love lingers in golden light and the night feels endless.”

Andrea says the use of direct flash photography was a deliberate choice to enhance the editorial feel – capturing those raw, in-between moments that make a wedding truly unforgettable.

“I wanted the images to carry a sense of nostalgia and cinematic drama, where emotions take centre stage and every detail feels intentional,” she says.

“For couples drawn to a modern yet timeless and romantic wedding, where emotions are at the centre, this shoot is a celebration of contrast, transformation, and the undeniable power of red—a statement of love that refuses to be ordinary.”
