A blooming gorgeous wedding at Killearn Village Hall, Killearn
Hannah and Sam

After a decade together, Hannah and Sam saw tying the knot as a celebration of the amazing relationship they’d built as opposed to ‘just a wedding’ and wanted to plan a special, joyful day with those closest to them.
Following Sam’s proposal (he’d secretly worked with jewellers Blair and Sheridan in Glasgow to design something bespoke – aww!) they settled on a plan to “sort one big thing per month”.
Finding the right venue and photographer was their priority, and the pair say that meeting “cool and talented” suppliers was the best part of wedding planning.
Killearn Village Hall was the first and only place the couple looked at because once they’d set foot in it, they booked it straight away.
Fuss-free and full of natural light, it was the perfect setting to bring their relaxed yet playful wedding vibe to life.
Time for teamwork
Hannah worked with local florist Endrick Blooms who totally nailed her high-level brief of “colourful, meadow-y flowers”.
Then she got Make Believe Events in to assist with pretty festoon lighting and hanging lanterns.
Next, she called upon talented family members for some gorgeous DIY details.
“Sam’s twin sister is an artist so she hand-painted our welcome sign and designed other signage.
“His mum has a pottery business and she made table names that doubled as individual decorations for people to take home as favours.”
Hannah set off to explore the bridal boutiques with her mum, her wee sister and a very specific idea of what she wanted – flowy and boho with sleeves.
But what she fell in love with was a little different.
“My dress was fitted with small straps, a leaf/flower pattern over it and a train.
“I loved it as it gave me that fitted shape but it still felt boho and unique.”
She added blue shoes (something she’d had her heart set on from the beginning) and opted for fresh flowers in her hair instead of a veil.
The finishing touch was a bespoke salt and pepper diamond necklace; a thoughtful gift from Sam to match her engagement ring.
With family and friends arriving from all over, the to-be-weds arranged a small get-together the night before the wedding but admit that “in classic Hannah and Sam style” they got carried away and ended up with a later-than-planned bedtime!
Despite this – and a sub-par sleep due to extreme excitement – the bride was raring to go the next morning.
However, she does say she wishes they’d got started earlier so she could have enjoyed a chill in her dress with her ‘maids before the ceremony.
Music with meaning
Seeing Sam at the end of the aisle ensured any little regrets turned to joy immediately though, especially due to the meaningful song playing.
“We had an instrumental version of Wash by Bon Iver.
“It was Sam’s alarm on his phone when we first met, so we’d always wake up to it.
“It felt super-special,” smiles Hannah.

Alan Barr delivered an informal, funny and personal humanist ceremony – “He was born to do the job he’s doing!” – and afterwards everyone spilled out into
The Kitchen Window; the beautiful café overlooking Loch Lomond that’s attached to Killearn Village Hall.
On that note, the newlyweds can’t recommend their caterers enough, “The Kitchen Window were absolutely incredible.
“Sarah went above and beyond for everyone, to the point she loaned a guest her blouse after her husband had spilt red wine down her outfit!
“The food was out of this world and the menu was so interesting.
“It had options I’d not seen at weddings before and was definitely made for foodies, which suited us down to the ground.
“We love going out for dinner so tasty and interesting food was really important.
“Even things like serving guests whatever sort of barista-style coffee they wanted after the three-course meal just added that extra, amazing touch.”
Doing something different
Bucking tradition, both the bride and groom spoke at the wedding breakfast, and they had a joint ‘best person’ instead of a best man and a maid of honour.
Hannah explains, “We wanted a speech from someone we were both close to; someone who could talk about us as a couple.
“Joanna did just that – and definitely got the room giggling.
“The absolute highlight, however, was our eight-year-old nephew Xander’s surprise speech!
“It brought the room to tears and was probably the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. He did so well.”
Big dancing fans, it’s no surprise that Hannah and Sam spent the whole night cutting shapes as Astoria played live and, later, The Kitchen Window excelled themselves once again with a buffet and sweetie table.
“It was so lively and happy with people dancing and mingling.
“We honestly wished it could’ve gone on all night,” remembers the bride.
Reflecting on the planning journey, Hannah and Sam felt it was laid-back.
And they reckon it’s down to being hands-off, letting their trusted suppliers take control where possible.
“They’re the experts in what they do and if you give them a brief of what you’re looking for, they can run with it and come up with something amazing.
“Being fairly chilled meant our suppliers could let loose a little and everything just came together in amazing ways.”

The wedding was so perfect for me because of the atmosphere created by all their incredible friends and family. You could tell how much everyone liked them by the amount of happy tears shed.”
