Jenna and Pete’s love story began through mutual friends years ago but conversation really started to flow during lockdown 2020.Four years later, on a quiet walk across their farm, Pete stopped, pulled out a silver band stamped with ‘marry me,’ and asked the question.
The ring was made in secret by Jenna’s friend, Kirsty Stewart Jewellery. Later, Kirsty crafted an engagement ring using gold and diamonds from her gran and mum – a champagne diamond centre stone framed with six smaller stones. “I love that our families are literally part of it,” says Jenna.
THE PLANNING
The photographer was their priority. “Eilidh was the first message I sent once our families knew,” Jenna laughs. “We picked the date based on her availability.” Choosing the venue was even simpler. With open countryside and a beautiful garden, Skeddoway Farm felt like the obvious choice. They installed a stretch tent from Present Tents, creating a relaxed, rustic setting that felt completely true to them. “All our memories will forever be right here,” says Jenna.
Their colour palette evolved from bright pink and orange to rustic rosy tones, bronze accents and bursts of yellow sunflowers. “The whole look became warm, cheerful and so us.”
DIY was at the heart of everything. Wedding stationer Jenna designed all the signage and stationery, created sunflower and potato-box place cards, and printed personalised bar panels. Her dad built the wooden octagon that hung from the tent; mums and bridesmaids arranged the flowers; and Jenna and her team styled the entire space. “The bridal party pulled together. It really did take a village.”
THE LOOK
Dress shopping took a few twists. “I had a clear idea… Then chose the complete opposite!” she laughs. Her Maggie Sottero Adeline gown by Rebecca Ingram (from Amy King Bridal and Beauty) was a strapless crepe dress with a beaded bodice, a statement beaded train and a mesh-filled slit. “It was comfortable, unique and had every detail I wanted.” Amy King created a relaxed VIP fitting that Jenna describes as “like being with friends rather than salespeople.”
Her accessories were a meaningful mix. Hairpins from Kate Dillon Designs, pearl pins borrowed from her bridesmaid Elaine and earrings made from gemstones belonging to her gran and mum.
THE DAY
The night before was calm and cosy, with Jenna and her bridesmaids staying at her parents’ house for wine, gifts and a surprise ‘letters to the bride’ book. She slept well (“the wine helped!”) and woke early.
Hair was by Nicola Lawson and make-up by Natasha Dardas. “Both were so relaxed – it made the whole morning lovely,” Jenna remembers.
She walked down the aisle to the acoustic version of Stargazing by Myles Smith and celebrant TJ Thomson created a ceremony guests haven’t stopped talking about. “It was everything we wanted – relaxed, personal, fun. We drank from the quaich, our siblings did a reading they wrote themselves and we laughed with everyone we love.”
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed prosecco, Pimm’s and beers cooled in a tattie box of ice, with canapés from Robertson Hospitality and a playlist made from guests’ RSVP song choices.
Dinner was a true ‘farm to fork’ feast – beef from Jenna’s parents’ farm, potatoes from their own and vegetables from neighbours. Each table had a nominated carver complete with apron for extra fun. Speeches were full of laughter, especially with the surprise theme tunes Jenna’s brother played as each speaker stood up. “It set the tone perfectly”.
The evening reception inside the tent was packed from start to finish. Who’stown had the dancefloor full all night, mixing ceilidh sets with party classics. Guests raided a vintage suitcase filled with sunglasses, cowboy hats and props, and after the band finished, karaoke took over until the early hours.
REFLECTING
“The whole day was just so happy”, Jenna smiles. Highlights included a quiet five minutes together during photos and seeing all their loved ones in one place.
Planning had its moments – “guest list stress is real!” – but being at home, surrounded by the people who helped create it, made everything worth it. Her advice? “Do it your way. Ignore expectations. Let people help. And say yes to all the celebrations – you’ll never get this time again.”
