Yasmin and Joe first met at university in Glasgow in 2014.
“We were originally flatmates in halls, and friends for four years before we got together,” Yasmin explains.
“Joe proposed to me when we were on holiday together in Lisbon, in the beautiful apartment we were staying in.
“He hung up photos of us from throughout the years all through the apartment, which led to the balcony where he was waiting with the ring!”
As a former wedding planner, Lucy knew it was important for them to decide on a date and venue, as places were already booking up quickly.
With that in mind, they booked Broxmouth Courtyard without even seeing the finished result – because it was still in the process of being built!
The purpose-built venue is situated on the outskirts of the historic fishing town of Dunbar, on the East Lothian coast.
“We chose Broxmouth Courtyard off the architect’s plans, and the amazing team and the delicious-sounding food options sold us,” Lucy explains.

They had been together just over four years – and had known each other for eight.
They ended up tying the knot a week after the 10-year anniversary of their meeting.
Getting the planning underway, they knew the venue would unite the whole vision for the wedding, so a couple of weeks after getting engaged they began searching.
“We looked online before booking viewings.
“Kinmount House was just so perfect for us,” says Yasmin.
“It felt like something out of a movie.
“The house itself was grand and ornate, with romantic gardens and a stunning lake which we knew we would want to be featured in the wedding.
“It also had a fantastic space for dancing, something we were very keen to be a focus of the evening!”
Being a September wedding, they wanted to add some autumnal elements.
“We also loved the idea of bright colours, so we ended up with a multi-coloured wedding theme with orange, red and yellow at the core.”
Delicate and detailed
Because Yasmin’s mum owns wedding dress shop Isobel Florence Bridal, she had seen a lot of gowns before.
“I was nervous nothing would feel special, so I wanted something that was still bridal, but a little bit different,” she explains.
“Unsurprisingly, I went to my mum’s shop to find my dress.
“Although it’s somewhere I have worked myself before, we treated the whole day like I was a regular bride.
“My mum’s colleague Stephen took the appointment while my mum and I enjoyed the experience.
“My bridesmaids joined us too. I also went to see the designer of my dress in London after choosing it and took my auntie and mother-in-law.”
Yasmin’s ‘Versaille’ gown by Eliza Jane Howell was in a custom pale pink with antique silver beading.
“The dress was beautifully embroidered with rose motifs and featured cut-out shoulders with beaded tassels.
“I adored how delicate and detailed it was, and that it was a little different from other dresses I had tried on – but still incredibly bridal.”
Yasmin also chose ‘Suzy’, a red evening dress also by Eliza Jane Howell in a custom length, as a homage to her Chinese heritage.
She wore a gold lotus necklace by Amelia Ray Jewlry that Joe gave her on the day of the wedding as a gift, and her auntie made a veil and custom hairpiece to go with it.
Yasmin’s six bridesmaids all chose their own style of Sorella Vita dress in either burnt orange or teal chiffon.
And her mum also turned to Eliza Jane Howell, choosing her gorgeous gown from the designer’s Gill Harvey collection, which she stocks in her boutique.
Meanwhile, Joe surprised Yasmin by choosing to wear a kilt.
“I’m Scottish, but he is English and swore he would never wear a kilt – much to my disappointment.
“I expected to see him in a suit at the end of the aisle.
“Instead, he wore a tartan kilt and a burnt orange tie to match the colour scheme.”
Deep breath
Yasmin and Joe had a small celebration the night before in the croft at Kinmount House.
“We also did a traditional Chinese tea ceremony where we presented our elder family members with tea in exchange for gifts and words of wisdom on marriage,” she remembers.
Yasmin admits it had been stressful in the run up to the wedding, but the morning was relaxed, and she was ready to hang out with her ‘maids!
“My bridesmaids made a special playlist with upbeat music to keep us going.
“I loved seeing everyone get their hair and make-up done, and also secretly enjoyed messaging the groomsmen to do lots of tasks while I got to sit and relax.”
However, that didn’t hold Joe, his groomsmen and cousins back from having a morning swim in the lake!
“I was really emotional just before I walked down the aisle,” Yasmin recalls.
“I was ready to cry, but didn’t want to be teary when I saw Joe, so I took a deep breath, hugged my dad and then just felt excited.
“Then when I saw Joe in a kilt, I just couldn’t stop smiling.”
Yasmin walked in to God Only Knows by The Beach Boys played by Wedding Strings Con Amore and their humanist ceremony including a handfasting.
“We opted not to write our own vows and saved our words for speeches and letters to each other, which were delivered in the morning.
“It was nerve-wracking at first, but we managed without stumbling!”
Celebrant’s words

“The whole day was stunning and, as a wedding videographer and photographer, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. For me the best part is the party, and the dance floor was packed – which was great to see. Overall, one of the best weddings I’ve been to.”
