choosing a venue top to the to-do list and they knew instantly that, despite living in Canada, they tie the knot back home in Scotland. A winter wedding in a castle felt right and they viewed a few before real from Drumtochty ticked most of their boxes. “ we wanted to feel at home for the weekend; somewhere that felt very traditionally Scottish plus we had a lot of guests coming from different countries and wanted to host them all in one estate,” says the bride.

we decided on a moody romantic theme and trusted floristry and décor specialist Gloam to bring it to life. “We had antique gold and crystal-cut glass candlestick holders with purple velvet ribbons and tapered candles in soft rose, muted mauve and dark plum shades. Linens and napkins were warm toned and the menus and matching purple bows. For the flowers we gave Kate creative control and adored what she did. She even emailed me a ‘bouquet recipe’ after the wedding so that I could remake it in the future – such a sweet touch.”

Planning from afar they kept DIY details to a minimum but couldn’t resist a few personal touches Kathryn made wax seals for the invitation envelopes and decorated a letter box for donations on their wedding day in lieu of gifts. (They raised money for animal shelters they’d volunteered at while in Portugal.) They also made the location-themed table plans together. “Each place had a picture of us there and revealed why it was important,” Kathryn explains. “And as huge fans of Friends, we incorporated lots of references to the sitcom throughout the day.”

the bride shopped for her big day look in Scotland with her mum and sister searching for the timeless elegant and understated dress of her dreams – that she could accessorise to the max with diamonds! “ for a winter wedding it felt right to sparkle and I started with some extra sequins on the gown I added white gold diamond cluster drop earrings layered with specially made diamond studs and a dainty diamond tennis bracelet. I wore a crystal comb for the ceremony and swapped it for a headband in the evening finally I’d always known I wanted to be married in Manolos and went for ‘Nadira’ in ivory satin complete with asymmetrical crystal leaf embellishments.”
