A December wedding where BLACK TIE meets non-stop party energy at Gleneagles.
Michaela and Craig met on Bumble in 2019. Four years later, Craig proposed in the Maldives with a ring designed in Barbados and secretly smuggled home by Michaela’s mum – worn on the flight home so it wouldn’t be discovered.
From the moment they got engaged, Michaela knew exactly who she wanted involved. The Function Band was booked first. “They played at my brother’s wedding and brought the vibe. I knew I wanted them.”
The VISION
Gleneagles had been her dream venue since her teenage years, after watching her cousin marry there. “I just didn’t think it would ever be possible,” she admits.
The theme was strictly black and white. Sharp, modern and dramatic, it included a black aisle, a black dancefloor and bridesmaids in sleek black dresses designed to be worn again. For the gents, it was midnight shadow tartan kilts and Prince Charlie jackets from Kinloch Anderson – black tie with edge.
Michaela thought she knew exactly what dress she wanted – until she started trying them on. “I found it overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time.”
Then she stepped into Sophia Grace Couture and remembers knowing which dress was right as soon as she put it on. Alterations by Cat Garforth brought her vision fully to life. “It was the best feeling trying it on once it was complete,” she smiles.
Craig’s look was kept secret. When Michaela walked down the aisle to Stargazing by Myles Smith, she saw Craig, their son Alfie and the groomsmen all in midnight tartan for the first time. “That moment was magic.”
The DAY
The morning – Champagne, hair and make-up with her bridesmaids – was one of Michaela’s favourite parts of the day. Craig spent this time with Alfie and the groomsmen “trying to calm down”.
Their celebrant, Andrew Scott, delivered a ceremony that balanced humour and heart. They drank from the quaich, shared a symbolic final kiss with their mums (the women who first kissed them) and had their dads as witnesses.
By 3pm, the conga line had already begun. “It was a non-stop party from the minute guests arrived the day before until the last person went to bed,” Michaela laughs.
Cole Page performed at the drinks reception and guests were dancing long before dinner was served. “People told us they forgot they hadn’t even eaten yet.” After speeches that were hilarious yet heartfelt, including one from the maid of honour, they took to the floor for Tennessee Whiskey, a song they had chosen years earlier.
Craig’s favourite moment was sitting at their sweetheart table on stage, looking out at a room filled with everyone they love. And Michaela loved standing on the podium with The Function Band, singing Stargazing as the entire room sang it back. “At some points it felt like we were the only two in the room,” Craig says. “We never left each other’s side.”
The REFLECTIONS
Putting it all together was nerve-wracking but seeing it unfold made every bit of stress worth it.
The newlyweds would tell other couples to take their time and ignore the TikTok pressure – because “the small details won’t matter nearly as much as the feeling in the room.”
“All that matters is having your favourite people in one place, having the best time,” adds Michaela.
