They chose SEA AIR over seating plans and PRIVACY over tradition on a secluded Scottish shoreline.

In May 2019, Jessica’s landlord asked her to show a spare room to a prospective tenant. It was a Friday, she had a train to catch and she wasn’t in the mood. “I was so annoyed,” she laughs. The late arrival in a checkered shirt, inspecting door handles and wardrobe hinges, was Lukasz. Jessica remembers “thinking he was a bit weird.”

He moved in the following week and friendship followed – PlayStation marathons, cherry vodka, shared chocolate and long conversations. “What I loved most was the friendship. I could be 100% myself.” One night felt different, though, and led to their first date – and one of the best kisses of Jessica’s life.

Six and a half years later (after a Paris proposal that fulfilled Jessica’s childhood dream) they chose to marry in a way that felt authentic and intentional.

The DECISIONS

“We wanted it to be just us, real nature and our full attention on each other,” Jessica explains. St Cyrus Beach had exactly what they were looking for – space, privacy and sea air. They didn’t book far in advance; once they found the spot, they chose the date.

There was no theme, no colour palette and no elaborate styling. Instead, they created a picnic to share after the ceremony, which featured a heart-shaped basket they still use today, charity shop vases filled with white flowers and a supermarket cake topped with a simple ‘Just Married’ sign. “It turned into the best picnic ever and now everything we bought holds even more meaning.”

One coincidence felt too good to be true – a bottle of Champagne they’d been gifted when they got engaged sat waiting for a year, only for them to realise it read ‘Cyrus’ on the label. The same name as the beach they’d chosen.

Jessica and Lukasz’s trio of suppliers became more than a photographer, videographer and celebrant – Laura, Larissa and Debbie not only helped carry everything down to the sand but were also their official witnesses.

The DAY

They woke early, peaceful yet nervous, and the dolphins that appeared offshore felt like a sign. “Such a special moment,” remembers Jessica.

They got ready together in the same space. Lukasz helped with Jessica’s hairpins so her curls could fall naturally, then zipped her dress before they walked barefoot down to the beach – they hadn’t even eaten breakfast!

At 10am, with only the sound of waves around them, they exchanged private vows while holding a Celtic knot. There was light drizzle, barely any wind and no one else in sight. “It felt as if everything else stopped,” Jessica explains. “Time both flew and stood still.”

Afterwards, they went to a local pub for food and drinks, strangers cheering as they walked in.

The REFLECTIONS

Looking back, what stays with them isn’t a single detail but the feeling. “We did it exactly how we wanted and we were 100% happy.”

Nothing about the day felt ordinary. From dolphins at dawn to the personal vows, it was intimate in a way that would have been impossible in a crowded room. Their advice to other couples is simple: “Follow your own flow. Do what you want, not what others expect because what truly matters is you – and the memories you’ll carry forever.”

Laura Anne Photography

“As a photographer used to large, fast-paced weddings, this elopement felt like a breath of fresh air. Jessica and Lukasz got ready together and exchanged vows alone on the beach, with only the sound of the waves. We were honoured to witness it.”
