Aimee and Ross were first introduced at their friend Jack’s 21st – and little did they know he’d end up being an usher at their wedding!
After almost six years together Ross proposed to Aimee at Portavadie Hotel while they were on a staycation to celebrate her birthday.
Their first priority was to get a venue booked and they had a few places in mind – but they’d never been to Lochside House Hotel before.
“We took my mum and dad with us to go view it one Sunday and instantly fell in love with it: its views, the décor, the staff – everything was perfection,” Aimee explains.

When it came to a colour scheme, Aimee had originally wanted a pale green for her bridesmaids and detailing, however she later fell in love with a very pale blush pink, which suited the gold and champagne décor at Lochside.
Lucky for these to-be-weds, Aimee’s mum loves DIY so she did a lot of making frames and creating little bespoke parts of the wedding, for which the couple were extremely grateful.
And more perfect still, Aimee’s mum also works at Falkirk occasionwear boutique, Catwalk, where owner Pauline Spiers is her best friend.
“When I was getting married my mum knew she would find a gorgeous, elegant MOB outfit at Catwalk.
“And Pauline herself – along with a lot of other guests – were dressed in Catwalk outfits for the day too.
“There were so many stunning outfits and styles,” Aimee says.
A perfect night
The first time Aimee went dress shopping, it was just her and her mum.
Next, she went to a trunk show at Eleganza Sposa in Glasgow with her mum, maid of honour and bridesmaid.
“My dress was a fishtail style with a beaded top half, thick straps with an elegant plunging neckline and V-neck back shape, with a long floaty train,” she explains.
To accessorise, she wore a detailed vine-style headpiece in white with her hair up in a tousled style and a crystal embellished veil tucked underneath.
Her bridesmaids were her four besties and they all picked out the perfect dress together at David’s Bridal.
“We chose a pale pink, A-line style maxi dress with pockets and low scoop back detail.
“Then we added pink rose gold belts, which we had sewn on to break up the colour.”
Ross and his party wore stylish black kilts with a brown and sand check along with sand coloured jackets.
He had three best men: his older brother Scott and best friends Ryan and Blair.
Meanwhile, two other besties Jack and Jordan were ushers.
The couple travelled up to the venue the day before the wedding, enjoying a big meal with close family and friends.
“We then had some drinks in our lodge and gave our bridesmaids gifts, and gifts to my mum and mother-in-law – just a perfect night!” Aimee recalls.
She had quite a good sleep and woke at 5.30am, a whole hour before the hair and make-up was due to begin.
“I loved my wedding morning,” she says.
“I was so calm and happy – it was perfect.
“The girls really made it for me, that will be a core memory forever for me: us all in our robes and slippers, dancing and laughing, knowing we had a huge day ahead of us.”
A good feeling
Aimee felt more emotional than she’d expected walking down the aisle.
“When I heard the music – and holding on to my dad – it was so overwhelming but a good feeling, knowing everyone you love is in that room waiting to witness such a special moment.
“It’s a feeling like no other.”
She walked down to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri played by their harpist Mairi Campbell.
“We had a super relaxed and understated ceremony with a humanist celebrant because we wanted it to be authentic.
“We wanted people to feel how we feel – not forced, and a lot of laughs.”
The couple also wrote their own vows with the help of their celebrant Melanie Leckie.
After the ceremony there was a drinks reception for their 130 guests as well as treats from an ice cream vendor.
For the evening reception, the dance floor was full the entire night and it was: “Loud and crazy and fun – that’s exactly what I imagined!”
Aimee says the most fun things about planning their gorgeous wedding were making all the decisions and trying on wedding dresses. “I felt like a princess!” she smiles.
She adds, “I found the wedding planning slightly stressful – but just because I wanted everything to be perfect.
“The booking process and organisation was really easy, it’s just making sure you haven’t forgotten anything,” she explains.
The couple are now expecting their first child – a super-happy ending to their story!
Looking back, Aimee says her highlight of the wedding was, “When we had our fireworks and everyone we love was around us with sparklers – just a beautiful moment surrounded by love.”
She adds it feels “amazing” to finally be married.
“We would do the wedding again in a heartbeat because we are so lucky to have each other.”
