A relaxed and intimate wedding at Loch Lomond Arms Hotel
Emily and Jason

Emily and Jason first met at high school in their hometown of Largs.
They officially got together when they were both 19 and, 11 years later, Jason proposed to Emily while on holiday in Split, Croatia in April 2022.
With the help of Tom Coll Jewellers in Glasgow, Jason custom-designed Emily’s engagement ring, incorporating green tanzanite at the centre of a diamond mount, as green is her favourite colour.
“Our priority was having the wedding we both wanted whilst sticking to a realistic budget,” Emily explains.
When they viewed the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in the village of Luss, they knew it was the perfect venue.
“It was a location we both love and we have enjoyed outdoor activities in the Loch Lomond area our whole lives.
“We particularly liked the Scottish charm of the venue and felt it encapsulated us as a couple.”
At the start of their planning, the couple had been reckoning on having a large-scale wedding, but due to the spiralling costs and the pressures that came along with such a big event, they made the decision to have a much smaller, more intimate wedding instead.
“Initially it was very stressful as we were distracted by the planning of a wedding that we weren’t entirely comfortable with.
“But as soon as we changed direction to a smaller intimate wedding we were more excited and had a clearer vision of the day and how we wanted it to be,” Emily explains.

There was no set theme, but Emily says they both wanted lots of colour.
“So Jason and his groomsmen chose or wore their own kilts and the bridesmaid dresses were a mixture of greens to represent my favourite colour!
“The instructions for the flowers were just as colourful as possible.”
They also put on their resourceful hats in order to minimise costs – as well as adding a personal touch.
Their ‘Welcome’ sign was crafted from their own living room mirror with a stick-on stencil purchased from Etsy, meanwhile the table names and plan was printed and designed by a friend and, “the table names were matched with pictures associated with it and these were personal to us,” Emily says.
The table centerpieces were shop-bought vases containing the bridesmaids’ bouquets and the favours were miniature Buckfast bottles with handwritten name tags.
When it came to deciding what to wear, Emily knew she wanted a dress with a square neck after seeing an image on social media and falling in love with the style.
She found the perfect one at WED2B in Glasgow and they made a day of it.
“It was lovely,” Emily recalls, “My mum, sister and four bridesmaids came along to help, it was special having them there!”
The ‘Tarek’ dress has a square neck with long sleeves and Emily had it tailored so that the back was lowered and the sleeves were removed.
She accessorised with bright green shoes (of course!) and the rest was pearl-focused, borrowing her mum’s pearl earrings and wearing a necklace that Jason gifted to her for their wedding.
Her veil was short with pearls through it.
Emily’s sister Katie was maid of honour and her four best friends were bridesmaids.
“I wanted them to feel amazing and I already loved the Rewritten dresses after wearing one as a bridesmaid.
“They all picked the style they wanted to mix and match and I let everyone know what colour to have, so we had three different greens across five!”
Jason, meanwhile, wore his own St Andrews tartan kilt; he had six groomsmen in total, two of which were best men.
The day before the wedding was busy with last-minute details to organise, but they still managed to fit in some chill-out time before setting up the venue.
Jason played golf with all his groomsmen and the two dads, while Emily did a boat tour with the bridesmaids, mums and her sister-in-law.
“We wanted to make a weekend out of it, so all the bridal party stayed in the cottages beside the venue, which was good!”
Neither Emily nor Jason slept too well, “We both had similar feelings of excitement and anticipation in the morning – we couldn’t believe the day was actually here!”
Jason had a relaxed morning taking some time to have a dook in the loch with the other groomsmen!
Once that was over, they all went back and watched the Old Firm derby before getting ready and greeting the guests.
For Emily, it was a mixture of emotions – the house was busy and buzzing with bridesmaids and hair and make-up!
Once Emily had a glass of champagne getting her hair done, she instantly felt relaxed and the rest of the morning passed in a blur.
Walking down the aisle, Emily was nervous, but very excited to see Jason.
As she made her way towards him, their piper played Caledonia by Dougie MacLean.
They chose a humanist wedding ceremony, “Our registrar made it so personal. She was amazing,” Emily explains, “We didn’t write our own vows but we made sure the ones we selected were personal to us and, to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for a more suitable set of vows that represented our relationship.
“We both felt emotional and we both remember it as tunnel vision – we just forgot people were witnessing us up there. Quite a blur!”
Once the ceremony was over, Prosecco, beer and canapés were offered to their 38 guests.
“We pre-made a playlist of our favourite songs and had this on in the background.”
A three-course meal was then served up and the speeches got a little fiery when – during Jason’s speech – Emily’s brother accidentally set the mother of the bride’s thank you bouquet alight.
Thankfully it was put out within seconds and it gave everyone a giggle! Jason (being a magician) made sure to include a magic trick at the end of his speech which the guests loved.
In the evening, there was a traditional Scottish ceilidh and then after the evening buffet it turned into a disco – talk about getting the best of both worlds!
Emily describes the atmosphere as, “Very fun – we bought some props from Amazon such as glow sticks, disposable cameras, blow up guitars and microphones – it brought the energy and was a good laugh!”
The highlight for Emily, though, was the ceremony itself, “It was raw, emotional and so personal. We will always cherish it!”

And she adds, “The other highlight was the first dance song, Jason chose the first dance as a surprise for me (Love Story by Taylor Swift) that was special!”
Joy Story
“A sun-soaked day in Loch Lomond, what’s not to like! Emily and Jason perfectly embraced doing things their own way and I love to see it! What a pleasure to capture it for them.”
