Eight months doesn’t sound like a lot of time but this couple managed to plan the most beautiful and heartfelt September wedding after only booking their venue that February.
Amna and Gary first met “the old fashioned way” on a night out.
Then after three years of dating he proposed to her on a family holiday in Menorca and they launched into wedding planning.
From the very start they had a clear idea of how their wedding should be.
“I wanted our guests to enjoy our special day so I knew I wanted the venue to be amazing and the entertainment and food had to be too,” says Amna.
However, it took them to look at a lot of venues across Scotland before they found the perfect setting for their ‘I do’s’.
Brig o’Doon House Hotel was the last one they visited and as soon as they walked in they knew straight away it was The One.
Decision made
Time was again of the essence when it came to Amna’s dress shopping experience and while initially she thought she wanted sleeves, her appointment at Opus Couture completely changed her mind.
“This was a last-minute appointment I had made with no expectations and it was perfect,” she smiles.
“My two bridesmaids went with me and Opus made the day so special.”
Her stylist Sophie was amazing and found the perfect Maggie Sottero gown.
“It was a dress that I never knew I wanted but loved it as soon as I saw it,” Amna says.
“I wanted something simple and timeless and when I tried it on I knew it was The One as I could feel myself getting married in it.”

Amna describes her five bridesmaids as her “support system”.
Sadly one of them, Shannon, who is in Australia, couldn’t make the big day but instead sent Amna their favourite scent – La Labo, Santal 33 – to wear on her wedding.
And Amna’s pregnant maid of honour gave birth the week after the wedding, but was there by her girl’s side the whole day – “in heels – superwoman!”
Rounding off her wedding party, Amna had her two little nieces as flower girls.
“They stole the show,” she smiles.
The excited bride may only have got four hours of sleep the night before the wedding but it was all systems go from 6am on the big day with hair and make-up starting early for a house full of girls.
Walking down the aisle to violinist David Laing of Capella String Quartet playing Adele’s Easy on Me, Amna felt emotional but excited.
The couple had chosen a humanist ceremony and wrote their own vows.
“I felt proud and a little bit emotional but Gary was very emotional saying his and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” smiles Amna.

A whole lot of love
Guests were treated to the very best service for the rest of the day, with Los Perros band providing the entertainment during their drinks reception.
“They were amazing and learned Billy Ocean’s Red Light Spells Danger for us which the crowd loved,” Amna recalls.
Gary got emotional again during his speech, sparking a lot of tears in the room before it was time for their “amazing” evening reception.
“The staff couldn’t have done enough for us and I felt like a queen,” says Amna.
“Everyone was dancing and there was just a lot of love in the room.”
Now they’re married Amna says people ask her a lot how it feels to be a wife.
“I would say it just feels like before but you feel more like an adult in some ways (haha).”
And to couples planning their own wedding she says, “Enjoy it, before you know it the day comes to an end.
“I didn’t believe others when they said that to me but it really does.”
